White Owl cigars are an inexpensive, American-made,
machine-produced cigar. First made in Dothan, Alabama in 1887, White Owl Cigars
are still made in Alabama and are exported all around the world. White Owl
cigars are made with a sheet type wrapper and binder that bunches a mixed filler
tobacco blend from five nations which give the cigar mild and flavorful taste.

The Machine Made Cigar Process
Machine made cigars are a great, cheap way to enjoy tobacco. These brands are made with high quality filler tobacco, yet they are inexpensive because the rolling process is automated. Handmade cigars premium cigars, are rolled by an individual.
The process of
producing a machine made cigar is pretty simple and can produce double the
amount as hand made cigars. Starting with the wrapper leaf, it is spread out on
one side of an aluminum disc that rotates. Rotating at 180 degress, in one swift
motion, little arms reach out and grab bunches of tobacco, the operator puts
another wrapper leaf on the ready side of the disc. It only takes a few seconds
and the rolled filler is covered with its wrapper, and then the whole process is
repeated over and over again.
The equipment used to make machine made cigars has pretty much been unchanged
for 40 plus years. Unfortunately, there is a enormous amount of maintenance to
keep these machines working.
Machine made cigar filler is made of shredded pieces of tobacco, also produced
by machine. In higher quality cigars, these shredded pieces are relatively
uniform in grade, size and texture. Some lower grade machine made cigars
shredded tobacco may vary in quality. In very low grade cigars you may find
pieces of tobacco stalks or stems in the filler.
The binder of the cigar holds the filler in place. In high quality cigars a
tobacco leaf is used. Other machine made cigars use a homogenized tobacco leaf.
This leaf is typically made from ground up tobacco scraps, mixed with
combustible agents and water, then stretched and rolled in a large sheet like
paper.
The wrapper is the tobacco leaf that forms the outer protection and gives the
cigar its appearance. Machine made cigars are made with dry wrappers, which
means that they will not mature into smooth, oily wrappers like some hand made
cigars.
